Sticking with 2009 for another entry, this one finished one above our last entry in 21st place. La Voix was another risky entry because it was different. The Operatic vibe was something that wasn't well received. My view of Malena was to consider her a Swedish version of Katherine Jenkins, but as much as I love her too I don't think Katherine would be well received outside the UK and a few Scandinavian countries. Despite winning 5 times, Sweden does fall into the same trap as others by sending entries that the rest of Europe might not like. Albeit Sweden does have a good excuse, their national selection Melodifestivalen is bigger in Sweden than the actual Eurovision Song Contest is and often gathers more publicity and more viewers than the actual contest, so in many ways the artist to them is deemed to have already won. Representing Sweden in the contest is just an added bonus.
