Just as with Celine Dion this next entry owes much of its success to the Eurovision Song Contest. Failing to qualify for the 1973 contest losing out to Nova and The Dolls who would go on to represent Sweden and place 5th, ABBA competed again and won the Swedish National selection - Melodifestivalen 1974 - and represented Sweden in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. They came 1st in a performance that brought them to the attention of the music world and arguably catapulted them into success. ABBA went on to become one of the most famous groups in the world and left behind a long standing musical legacy. Waterloo is yet another song that many people know but not that many realise was actually a Eurovision entry.
