I love the Crash Bandicoot franchise as a whole but undoubtedly the original trilogy are my favourite games as they started it all. Crash Bandicoot 2 was actually the first game in the series that I played, as it came bundled with the Playstation when we first got it, but of the original trilogy, the third instalment was my favourite, Crash Bandicoot Warped, because in it you got to play some levels as Coco Bandicoot, Crash's sister.
Set after the events of Crash Bandicoot 2, the game opens with a cut scene showing Dr Neo Cortex's space ship the Cortex Vortex fall from space and crash into one of the Wumpa Islands, releasing the evil spirit Uka Uka. The premise of the game is that Crash and his sister Coco must travel across time to collect the Crystals and Gems in order to stop Cortex.
Crash Bandicoot Warped was the first game in the franchise that allowed players to control Coco instead of Crash, although this was limited to only a few levels, most of which she spends her time either riding Pura - a South China Tiger, or her Jet Ski, or piloting a Plane.
Coco is essentially the Lisa Simpson of the Crash Bandicoot franchise, the younger, nerdy sister who uses intellect and wide array of technical skills to overcome obstacles. I have an affinity with Coco because I was never particularly athletic and had no interest in sports when I was a kid, but I did have an interest in motorcycles before I found out I would never be legally allowed to drive because of my Nystagmus. I also took riding lessons as a kid so I wouldn't feel out of place in her mounted levels. I have not yet ridden a Jet Ski, but I would like to, after I learn how to swim first as I have mentioned in the past I never learned how to do due to a near death experience when I was about 5 years old and almost drowned.
Crash Bandicoot Warped was my favourite game in the series for the variety of gameplay it offered, in addition to the Relics which were introduced as a reward for completing time trials of each level. The three games were originally released on the Playstation but were later remastered and released as the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy which I bought on Steam, elated to be able to replay the game with updated graphics and modern controls. N. Sane Trilogy along with 28 other games sits in my Steam Library at 100% completion. I don't often chase achievements in games, namely because they aren't usually worth the effort, but these games had so much nostalgia for me I felt the need to go for gold - or platinum in this case, 74/74 achievements unlocked, that includes completing Stormy Ascent which I eventually got the Platinum Relic for, that was a moment of sweet ecstasy when I finally clinched it.
